Highways England announces £218m investment to improve roads across East of England
Millions of road-users are set to enjoy safer, quicker and easier journeys, as Highways England reveals a multi-million-pound package of improvements across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. £36 million boost for AI technologies to revolutionise NHS care
Thirty-eight new pioneering artificial intelligence (AI) projects announced to help revolutionise care and accelerate diagnosis. Thousands of patients and NHS staff will benefit from dozens of new pioneering projects awarded a share of £36 million to test state-of-the-art AI technology. The projects are part of the NHS AI Lab’s £140 million AI in Health and Care Award, and will help the NHS to transform the quality of care and the speed of diagnoses for conditions such as lung cancer.

First look at £39.5m plans to improve Leeds Station including pedestrianised of nearby streets and cycle lanes
Leeds Station and its surrounding area is set to undergo a major change as part of a £39.5 million investment scheme. The funding will see New Station Street becoming completely pedestrianised, new taxi ranks and bus stops, new cycle lanes, and new seating areas.

Plans submitted for low carbon social housing in Manchester
A planning application has been submitted by Manchester City Council for new social housing in Newton Heath, bringing a long-term brownfield site back into use. The 69 new homes will have generous gardens, solar panels, living green roofs, ground source heat pumps, electric vehicle charging points, and other environmentally friendly features as part of the project’s low carbon commitment.

The City Council has plans to build 32,000 new homes between 2015 and 2025, with a target of 6,400 of those being affordable homes.

West Yorkshire to invest in new cycling infrastructure

More than £19.4m is to be invested in new walking and cycling schemes around Skipton and Harrogate Rail Stations. These active travel routes are part of the mayor’s plans for the region to become a net-zero carbon economy by 2038.
