Melton Borough Council submits £9.9m bid to fund town centre development projects
A Levelling Up Fund bid has been made by Melton Borough Council to develop three key sites in Melton town centre:
◆ Development of the cattle market site for events, food and drinks production units
◆ Refurbishment of the Melton Theatre within the Brooksby Melton College site
◆ Development of the old Brooksby College training centre into a food production, training and workshop facility.

Stockport begins work on new Local Plan
Stockport Council is set to begin work on a new Local Plan to set out the borough’s strategy for housing and development following its exit from the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF). Stockport Council’s Economy and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee are expected to give the go-ahead on a proposal to update the Local Plan, which includes the delivery of over 18,000 new homes across Stockport by 2038, as well as addressing transport and infrastructure improvements. In a report to councillors, a draft plan is expected to be produced and put out to public consultation in the Autumn of this year, with a 15-year final plan expected to be adopted by Autumn 2023.

£45 million Oswestry Innovation Park’s first phase approved
The ‘hybrid’ application sought full permission for the spine road and supporting infrastructure, and outline permission for a hotel and 21 business units – the details of which will be subject to later applications.

Brighton council agrees to £2.7 million toilet refurbishment
Brighton and Hove City Council will be spending a total of £2.7 million on upgrades to 11 of the busiest public toilets in the city. The investment will see loos in the highest footfall areas, including the seafront, being refurbished over the next three years.

Building Safety Bill finally starts its passage
The proposed legislation now starting its way through parliament primarily seeks to create the Building Safety Regulator – introducing a new regime for the construction and management of high-rise buildings in England and Wales – as well as the New Homes Ombudsman and the Construction Products Regulator. The latter will cover the whole of the UK.
