Billions more for councils to build back better
£53.9bn will be made available to English councils in the new financial year – £3.5bn more than 2021-22.

New homes to produce nearly a third less carbon
From June 2022, new build homes will have to produce 30% less C02 emissions than current standards, and other new buildings, such as shops and offices, will have to produce 27% less C02.

Gold Standard created to improve public sector construction projects
An analysis of construction frameworks, which considered over 120 written submissions and 50 interviews, has found that current processes produce too much waste, confusion and duplication, as well as focusing heavily on achieving the lowest price, rather than best value.
To tackle these issues, a Gold Standard has been introduced by the Cabinet Office which puts in place 24 recommendations for both developers and public sector buyers.
