£9m project to upgrade and enhance town’s council houses
Over the next year, Redditch Borough Council will be spending £9m to improve and maintain council housing. The Housing Capital Investment Programme will cover a range of internal and external maintenance work including fire precaution works, boiler replacements, door entry upgrades, electrical and smoke detection upgrades, disabled adaptations, environmental works, asbestos removal, upgrading vacant properties, and energy efficiency.
Former coalmining town to get £2.7m redevelopment after years of delays
The redevelopment will see part of Coalville town centre pedestrianised, creating a new space for outdoor markets and events. Work will also include creating a new one-way route for buses and taxis and introducing a range of new lighting and street furniture.
£260 million to boost healthcare research and manufacturing
£260m will be invested in medicine to support research and development, as well as the manufacturing of new drugs, devices, and diagnostics.
◆ £200 million will be invested to enable research to better access NHS data through Trusted Research Environments and digital clinical trial services.
◆ £60 million will support commercial-scale manufacturing investments by companies at the leading-edge of innovation.
Major opportunities for local businesses to carry out infrastructure projects funded by £1 billion City Deal
Over £290m worth of contract opportunities will be opened in Glasgow as part of their £1bn City Deal. The infrastructure programme includes tier-one contracts from across the region’s eight partner councils, and details 35 contracts coming up in the next five years.
Over half a million trees set to be planted in our towns, cities and countryside
Applications for the Local Authority Treescapes Fund and the Urban Tree Challenge Fund have reopened, meaning over £9m will be made available to successful applicants to support tree planting efforts across the nation.
Darwen’s £90m revamp will be ‘life-changing’
Projects included in the council’s proposed plans include:
◆ £13.4m to revamp the town centre, repurposing The Market Hall and Library Theatre, and creating a cafe bar space
◆ £14.2m housing in the town centre
◆ £4.6m sports village, Skatepark and Cricket Club
◆ £5.5m ultrafast broadband and public wi-fi
◆ £3.8m active travel routes
Govt signs off £39.5m Blackpool Town Deal projects
This funding will allow the following projects to be realised:

◆ £9m Blackpool Multiversity Land Assembly
◆ £7.5m Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone:
