Gov Prep Phase 2 of £5bn UK Project Gigabit Broadband Rollout

Planning for the next stage of the UK Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit scheme is underway, aiming to target more digitally disadvantaged premises that the initial scheme did not cover. So far the scheme has provided funding to several projects including:

  • £210m for gigabit vouchers
  • £110m to extend Dark Fibre (GigaHubs) across the public sector
  • Gigabit Infrastructure Subsidy (GIS) programme to gap-fund deployments with suppliers
Birmingham to launch landmark regeneration programme

Birmingham is preparing to launch its most significant regeneration programme in over a century. The Our Future City: Central Birmingham 2040 Framework, which has been developed over two years of public consultation, aims to make the city greener, improve public transport and attract more investment. The Framework is set to be launched on 16 May.

Major new 500-home estate to be built over Burton countryside

As well as providing new homes, the approved scheme will also see:

  • £2m for  secondary school and post-16 education provision
  • £324k for a new medical centre
  • £882k for off-site sports pitches
East Renfrewshire Council announces plans for new house builds (Scotland)

East Renfrewshire Council has confirmed more new council homes will be built across the region in 2023 and beyond. Plans include 105 affordable homes in Maidenhill, 17 flats at Barrhead Road, and 65 homes on Commercial Road.

Little Reddings Primary School plans in Bushey approved

The school buildings are in critical need of work, and plans have been approved to demolish existing buildings and replace them with a two-storey, 420-place school and 39-place nursery.

Council to start hydrogen bin lorry trial

Many councils are experimenting with swapping existing vehicles for alternatives to cut carbon emissions.

Gwynedd village could now get new road – 18 months after bypass plan scrapped

Llanbedr village in Gwynedd could now get a new relief road after its bypass plan was scrapped by Welsh Government in 2021. The new road is expected to be a low-speed bypass.

City of Edinburgh Council Liberton Hospital purchase paves the way for new affordable housing

The City of Edinburgh Council plans to turn the site of Liberton Hospital to create around 400 new homes, with work expected to start in 2025.

South Dublin County Council plans solar energy farm at vast landfill site in Co Kildare (Republic of Ireland)

South Dublin County Council (SDCC) is pushing forward with plans for a large solar energy electricity generation site at the Arthurstown landfill site in Co Kildare. The project aims to establish a 5MW solar farm on the 67-hectare site.

No local firms bid for £9m leisure hub contract

Forest of Dean Council is having to look further afield for contractors to take on the £9m contract.

£3.1bn CHIC Newbuild Framework 2023

Description: CHIC intends to procure an 8-year Newbuild Development Framework for construction works and consultancy services. The framework will cater for a wide range of project types, from small infill and garage sites to large estate regeneration projects including newbuild, refurbishment/retrofit and cross subsidy housing for sale.

£562m Digital Services Framework

£12.5m Provision of Personalised Registrations Auction Services Contract

Description: The DVLA wishes to procure Auction Services on a national basis from the successful Contractor. DVLA currently offers Personalised Registrations for sale through online and venue auctions. Due to pandemic-related social restrictions, between May 2020 and September 2022 all auctions were held online. Venue auctions resumed in October 2022. DVLA is beginning the re-procurement of the auction service with the auctions to be held exclusively online. 

£25m Provision of a Personal Support & Social Work Service Prior Information Notice

Description: With the effectiveness of the RAF being dependent on the wellbeing of personeel and their families, the service provision required aims to provide a range of support services to the RAF Community (regular, reserves and families) in the UK. The services required will need to support families who are perhaps isolated due to being posted to remote locations, assistance, and support to deal with issues such as mental health, grief, domestic abuse to support all RAF personnel and their families at a time when situation faced in life become both overwhelming and challenging.

£25m AMP 8 Framework- Capital Infrastructure (LCDR)

Description: Southern Water Services (SWS) is anticipating that AMP8 will be the largest investment programme it has ever undertaken, given its plans for WINEP and WRMP, and the service it is seeking to deliver for customers. SWS now wishes to secure a range of supply chain partners for the delivery of its AMP8 capital programme. The AMP8 regulatory period will run from April 2025 to March 2030. The current frameworks used for engineering, design and construction services have been in place for almost 10 years and expire on 31st March 2025.
