Landmark green energy scheme buoyed by £22m boost

More than £22m from the Government will fund the UK’s first heat network using a geothermal source at Langarth Garden Village near Truro. The project, led by Cornwall Council, will use hot granite rocks under Cornwall to provide clean energy for homes and facilities in the area, helping them to switch from fossil fuels “for more stable bills”. The heat network will power and heat 3,800 homes, the Royal Cornwall Hospital, schools and a leisure centre.

Over £12m Allocated To Improve Energy Efficiency In Homes In Cumbria

The Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) scheme has allocated £12.4m to help Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council make homes more energy efficient. 

Durham Council begins surveys for A68 bypass at Toft Hill

Residents in Toft Hill, in County Durham, want a bypass to cut down the traffic of large vehicles and HGVs driving through the village. The plan to divert the A68 around the village is one of three projects in the Bishop Auckland constituency that have received £20m of government levelling up funds.

Cambridgeshire to receive £3m funding to tackle worsening potholes

The number of potholes in Cambridgeshire has doubled this year compared to last year. The Department for Transport has given Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) an extra £3.617m to improve roads.

Somerset: Millions given to council with pothole backlog

Potholes and other road maintenance problems in Somerset will be fixed with an extra £5.4m of funding from the UK government.

New cycle route for residential Exeter street

One of Exeter’s busiest streets will have a cycle route built along it for £1.7m. The scheme was approved by Devon County Council’s cabinet, and involves taking away 16 on-street parking spaces and shifting traffic lanes.

Glasgow planting scheme to put in 18 million new trees lands funding boost (Scotland)

The Clyde Climate Forest project, which plans to add trees and woodlands across eight council areas in the next 10 years, has received a £200,000 funding boost. The project aims to plant 18 million trees across the wider Glasgow area.

£50m UK funding bid considered for new Corran ferry (Scotland)

The Highland Council is considering making a bid of up to £50m to the UK government to restore the Corran Ferry service. The main boat, MV Corran, has not been working since January and the backup boat, MV Maid of Glencoul, had a breakdown at Easter.

Government plans industrial strategy for offshore wind energy (Republic of Ireland)

The Irish Government wants to create a national strategy for how Ireland can reach its renewable energy goals while making the most of the economic benefits of offshore wind. By the end of the decade, Ireland aims to have 7GW of offshore wind energy. This will increase more than five times to 37GW by 2050.
