A303 Stonehenge road tunnel given go-ahead by Government

The Department for Transport has given the green light to a project that will transform the A303 near Stonehenge with a road tunnel. The project, which has received a Development Consent Order (DCO) from Transport Secretary Mark Harper, will span eight miles of the A303 in Wiltshire and include a two-mile long tunnel.

Historical slopes linked to Rochdale’s medieval past to be renovated in £1m heritage project

A Rochdale park will see its Georgian water fountain and historical slopes restored as part of a heritage project that will inject £1m into the town centre. The project responds to a recent public consultation that revealed that the park is valued by local residents but needs work to improve its safety and accessibility. The plans also include new landscaping for the park.

North Somerset Council finds additional £12m for Banwell bypass

The construction costs for the Banwell bypass project have risen from £66m in 2021 to £90m. North Somerset Council agreed unanimously yesterday to contribute another £11.9m to the project, covering about half of the gap. The project has planning permission, but a public inquiry is underway to examine the compulsory purchase orders. The secretary of state for transport will decide the outcome of the inquiry in the next few months.

Bradford railway station: Axed plans for new travel hub reconsidered

The government will review plans for a new line and station in Bradford, which were previously axed. An updated business case for the project is expected to be ready later this year. The project would see the scaling back of the NPR, and cutting a significant portion of HS2’s eastern leg.

250-home development at Carnforth may move forward

The former Lundsfield Quarry on Kellet Road in Carnforth could become a site for up to 250 homes, with 20 per cent being affordable. Homes England, the developer, has been in talks with Lancaster City Council and other stakeholders since it first proposed the plan in April 2019.

Plans for £1million upgrade to Brancaster boardwalk would see stretch of Norfolk Coast Path reopen by end of 2023

The boardwalk at Brancaster, a scenic spot on the Norfolk Coast Path, could be repaired with “innovative, long-lasting technology” and glass-reinforced plastic in a £1m project. The proposals have been submitted by Norfolk County Council, which plans to upgrade the boardwalk.

Ireland unveils strategy to put hydrogen energy into the grid

The Irish Government has unveiled a strategy to develop hydrogen as a part of its future energy ambitions. The strategy outlines the immediate actions and the long-term vision for making hydrogen a “key component of a zero-carbon economy” in the country. It also gives guidance to stakeholders on how the hydrogen sector in Ireland will evolve over the next few years.
