Project to rejuvenate historic arcade moves forward thanks to grant cash

Hull City Council has received a £96,000 grant from Historic England to carry out detailed surveying of Hepworth’s Arcade. This funding will help plan the best way to repair and renovate this historic gem. The grant will also cover designing the wider project and preparing a planning application. 

Plans for Sunderland cycle path to Roker seafront revealed

Sunderland Council has announced plans to build a two-way cycle lane between Dame Dorothy Street and Roker seafront. This will create a scenic route that connects the promenade, the marina, St Peter’s Church, St Peter’s University campus and the city centre. The project aims to reduce congestion and improve safety for cyclists. It is expected to start later this year and be completed by spring 2024.

Council to unveil new vision for main gateway into Ayr

South Ayrshire Council is working on a new vision to transform the main gateway into Ayr, including Burns Statue Square, a new railway station or transport interchange – to improve the town’s connectivity and accessibility. 

Green belt M11 travel hub progresses to next stage

A new travel hub with over 2,000 parking spaces and 300 cycle spaces will be built on green belt land outside Cambridge. The project aims to encourage more people to switch to sustainable modes of transport such as cycling, walking, or public transport. The detailed designs are expected to be ready soon and the construction is planned for early 2025.

South West councils line up ‘fresh approach’ to planning

Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury councils have joined forces to create a new plan for the future of their districts. The plan will set out a long-term vision for where new developments should and should not happen, taking into account the impact on the environment and climate change. The plan will be examined by an independent inspector and is expected to be adopted by 2025.

The Hub will be central to the GLA’s aim to collaborate with organisations to help them achieve net zero.
